ESRD Program

The Pediatric Nephrology Division at the Montreal Children's Hospital offers a full range of clinical services for children with renal insufficiency. At the early stages of progressive renal failure, a team of physicians, nurses, social workers and nutritionists provide conservative strategies to slow progressive loss of renal function (e.g. ACE inhibition), maximize growth potential (e.g. growth hormone therapy), correct anemia (e.g. erythropoeitin therapy), correct renal osteodystrophy and provide support for the difficult family adjustments to this condition.  For children requiring renal replacement therapy, the team provides the options of hemodialysis, home peritoneal dialysis, and renal transplantation.  The program is an integral part of the McGill University Health Center Nephrology Division, allowing for smooth transition between pediatric and adult clinical centers and optimal care of parents who serve as kidney donors for their children.
